3 best weekend brunch restaurants in Jakarta

Loewy

Two of the capital’s hippest restaurants – from Jakarta-based Union Group – are popular for their brunch specialties. In Kuningan, Loewy presents informal all-day French bistro-style dining, tweaked for contemporary taste buds from Belgian chef Benoit Claeys. The retro-modern interiors evoke an early 20th century Parisian café- brasserie meets 1940s New York City loft vibe – these two cities are the main inspiration for its Loewy Weekend Brunch. A weekend ritual for many Jakartans, especially out on the sun-drenched al fresco terrace, delish offerings include freshly-baked bagels from live stations, griddle dishes, like Ricotta Pancakes and Mozzarella Poutine, and its signature Steak and Eggs. For a contrastingly healthy beverage, pick the Japanese-inspired, Horenzo Smoothie. Oakwood Premier Cozmo, #1 Jalan Lingkar Mega Kuningan E4.2. Tel: +62 2125542378

Benedict Jakarta

Launched in 2015, Benedict Jakarta presents a gourmet café-restaurant concept serving all-day breakfast dishes and divine desserts created by chefs Fernando Sindu and Ivan Wibowo – the latter formerly of Noma. Benedict’s menu comes inspired by classic comfort fare, featuring Asian and Mediterranean influences and modern, gastro twists; house-made creations include sausages and breads. The All-Day Breakfast Menu includes the epic Full Monty with eggs, pork or beef bacon, sautéed mushrooms, ground sausages, baked beans and fries, and the exotic Benedict’s Bubur Ayam. Their namesake Eggs Benedict offers innovative interpretations like signature Pork Belly.  Other options cover homemade waffles and ice creams plus artisanal coffees from Australian Toby's Estate. Reservations are recommended during the weekend. Lower Ground, #37-39, Grand Indonesia East Mall, Jalan MH Thamrin No. 1. Tel: +62 21235812380

ST ALi Jakarta

Injecting a slice of Melbourne’s brunch culture to Jakarta is ST ALi, which opened in February. A collaboration with Common Grounds Roastery, ST ALi Jakarta is quintessential Melbournian, from the urban coffee warehouse design and its rotation of award-winning chefs and baristas, right down to the 'holistic' paddock-to-plate fare. The ever-changing menu covers All-Day Eating, including signatures of Koo Koo Ka Choo with crispy potato hash, mushroom duxelle, poached eggs, gruyère and truffle vinaigrette; and pan-fried Hiramasa Kingfish & Beats. Morning Glory which is served all day, includes tweaked breakfast staples like porridge, served here with wild vanilla and chia seeds with almond milk. Grd. Flr 2 Gedung Setiabudi, Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said Kav. 62 Kuningan. Tel: +62 2152906814/15
