Book The Long Table at John Hardy Boutique & Gallery at Seminyak for a modern Indonesian dining experience
You may want to add a visit to the John Hardy Boutique & Gallery at Seminyak on your itinerary next time you are in Bali. The immersive destination showcases John Hardy’s classic and new jewellery collection as well as paying tribute to Balinese design, craftsmanship and flavour through The Long Table modern Indonesian dining experience.
Adjacent to the boutique, find Jamu Bar. Led by the talented mixologist Joko Pratomo, the apothecary bar offers cocktails and mocktails, made from locally-sourced herbs, spices, fruits, and flowers. True to its name, jamu – Indonesia’s traditional herbal concoction – is prominently featured in refreshing cocktails such as Loloh Cem-Cem and Kunyit Asam. The open-air terrace overlooks the sprawling green lawn, making it a suitable place for meeting or mid-day drinking.
For lunch or dinner, head downstairs to The Long Table. Open daily from 11am to 7pm, the appointment-only restaurant is a modern take on traditional Indonesian regional cuisine. The meal is served on a long wooden table, large enough to comfortably accommodate 10 people. The evolving menu is changed every two months and highlight lesser-known dishes, from different regions in Indonesia.
In true Indonesian dining style, the dishes are made to share. This month, taste Javanese Ayam Ijo Royo Royo, Ikan Bakar Kecombrang from Bali, and three types of vegetable dishes: Gulai Labu Siam, Rumpu Rampe Flores, and Nyuh Pasih. Best enjoyed with a generous serving of fragrant Nasi Liwet, each dish is meticulously curated to suit each other’s unique flavours.
The savoury, tender chicken is smoked and cooked in a mixture of green chillies, shallots, and starfruit; whereas the coffee wood-grilled fish is sweet in taste and aromatic, thanks to the dehydrated torch ginger flower. Six varieties of sambals and three kinds of crackers complement the meal. The feast ends with a table-side serving of Es Campur where guests can choose their preferred toppings and sweetener. It is truly a delight to taste various Indonesian regional dishes in just one seating.
The Long Table dining experience is priced at Rp350,000++/person. One day advance reservation is recommended with a minimum booking for two people. Make the reservation here.
