Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali Charms Guests with locally-inspired culinary journey
Local flavours, stunning sunsets, and a beachfront setting are the mainstays of Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali.
Resting quietly along Jimbaran’s powder-soft beach, Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali is a treasure to which only those in the know have been privy. Enchanted guests will find thatch-roofed cottages, tropical landscapes with swirling frangipani trees, gentle smiles, thoughtfully discreet hospitality, and the sound of the waves during their visit. It is the embodiment of these charming things that has enabled the island to remain a beloved destination, despite being tested by time.
It is not a surprise that guests of the hotel find it unnecessary to leave the hideaway. From breezy breakfasts by the beach to romantic candle-lit dinners, executive chef I Kadek Adi Wijaya and his team have prepared globally-inspired delectable fare comprising fresh, locally grown, and seasonal produce from across the archipelago.
The Megibung Dinner
There is no better way to taste the resort’s homage to authentic Balinese flavours than by joining the weekly Megibung Dinner. The Balinese-style dinner is available every Wednesday at Nelayan Restaurant.
Megibung is a Balinese communal tradition of sitting together and sharing a meal. Thus, the food is served on a tall wooden tray replete with a variety of tasty dishes, such as grilled king prawns, Sumatran-style braised wagyu beef, mushrooms cooked in banana leaves, stir-fried vegetables, and rice cooked in coconut milk. The dishes are served according to the number of guests, leaving just the right amount of space to savour a selection of traditional cakes, tropical fruits, and jackfruit ice cream.
Set on the beach, the barefoot feast is made even more magical with the presence of an acoustic keroncong orchestra. The ensemble is led by a soulful vocalist, Lina, performing beloved classic tunes and personalised songs to celebrate diners’ special occasions. Having entertained guests for more than 17 years, the grande dame is an inseparable part of the hotel’s charm.
Craft cocktails at Puri Bar
Having started working at the hotel in 1985, I Nengah Ladra knows everything there is to know about the resort. Commencing in a bartending position, he is now the resort’s excellent service manager, a highly sought-after figure by long-time guests.
In 2012, he invented the Mojito de Ladro, one of Puri Bar’s iconic tipples for a wonderful day by the beach. It is one of the menu’s cocktails that uses local artisanal spirits and seasonal ingredients. This particular concoction is a refreshing beverage featuring Sababay’s SABA Vodka and fresh lychee. After sunset, guests may opt for the Coconut Negroni, a spirit-forward drink made of house-made herbal vermouth, Bols Genever Barrel Aged, and Galliano L’Aperitivo bitter.
