Renowned for its emphasis on wellbeing, the resort features holistic treatments and activities in its spa, fitness centre, and outdoor experiences. A Green Key destination
Be sure to visit the 80-square-metre Hydro Haven on your next visit to the resort. The recently launched hydroponic garden grows pesticide-free lettuce, pak choi, parsley, and chilli for the kitchens of Tabia and Tall Trees restaurants. The crisp lettuce in the salad station during breakfast is harvested every morning from the garden, showing the growing possibilities of a farm-to-table dining experience.
The resort has also created a suitable environment for a colony of stingless bees to thrive. Guests are welcome to observe the busy bees at work, taste honey straight from the hive, and adopt a bee whose role as a pollinator in the ecosystem is crucial. The honey is harvested by the resort’s groundskeepers and transformed into a honey scrub for one of the spa’s treatments or an ingredient for the Poh Madu cocktail.
Guests can sleep better knowing the resort also takes extra measures in its waste sorting programme to prevent waste from ending up in landfills. From building a composting area to making plastic-free deliveries mandatory for the vendors, the resort proactively finds ways to minimise waste.
It also partners with Scholars of Sustenance to distribute surplus food across the island and carefully source Bali-based certified eco-labelled products for the resort.
Unsurprisingly, this year The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali, was awarded a Green Key certification for its commitment to sustainability. The prestigious accreditation marks a standard of excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism and hospitality industries.
