The coastal town of Sanur is home to the tallest building on the island, the iconic Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection. Commissioned by Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno, it opened in 1966 to put Bali on the world’s tourism map and became the island’s first five-star hotel.

The ten-storey property underwent many name changes over the decades, and after a complete renovation, was relaunched at the end of last year. As part of The Sanur, an integrated destination for holistic health in a special economic zone, the hotel celebrates its past, pays tribute to the present, and looks ahead to the future. It also shares an entrance with its brand new sister property, The Meru, a holistic tropical resort for wellbeing.

Things to do in Sanur
The laid-back village of Sanur is renowned for its six-kilometre-long beachfront path. A favourite among runners, it is the perfect spot for an early morning jog while watching the sun slowly rise and Mount Agung on the horizon. Guests can rent a bicycle and explore the neighbourhood’s vibrant dining spots and cultural attractions such as Museum Le Mayeur and the ancient Blanjong stone pillar.

Dining out at Roso and Arunika
Start the day with a lavish buffet spread, solid caffeine kicks, and ocean views from the windows of Roso. With its batik and calming indigo-blue accents, the restaurant is making a name for its take on modern Indonesian cuisine. A lunch at Roso involves a platter of sambals with crispy crackers, Dendeng Basah Balado, Bebek Goreng Bumbu, Tengkleng Kambing, Sate Padang, and many other delicious regional delights.

For dinner, guests can go to Arunika. Overlooking the pool, the open-air restaurant is strong on Asian, Italian, and comforting Western dishes. Be it Char Kway Teow, Spaghetti Alla Chittara e Vongole, or a delightfully thick Wagyu Beef Burger, guests will find a meal to satisfy their cravings. Arunika also hosts Family Sunday Brunch, a popular feast that the island’s residents have come to love for its tempting array of grills, live cooking stations, chilled seafood, pastries, and desserts.

Martinis and Negronis can be had at Sutasoma Lounge, a resplendent lobby lounge made for relaxing and catching up on one’s reading in peace. Find out more about the room rate of the new Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection here.
