Chinese New Year is fast approaching and the last thing you want is to be caught without a plan on where to celebrate. One Farrer Hotel has prepared an array of scrumptious treats to help you usher in an auspicious Year of the Pig, whether it’s festive takeaways to savour in the comfort of your home, a lavish buffet spread or celebratory banquets (from $788 for an eight-course lunch/10 persons and $888 for an eight-course dinner/10 persons) with the whole family.
Buffet lovers will enjoy the Prosperity Feast at Escape Restaurant & Lounge (4 to 11 January, from $62/adult and $31/child); the spread includes a DIY Yu Sheng Station and the signature Wealthy Poon Choi, as well as Baked King Prawns with Golden Egg Yolk Lava Sauce.
Fret not if you are hosting your family and friends over the festive season and have no time to labour in the kitchen. There are several festive takeaways to satisfy your needs. The hotel applies the farm-to-table philosophy to their Signature Yu Sheng (from $138) so you can expect ingredients like farm-fresh hand-shredded radish and carrots alongside fresh salmon slices with edible gold leaves, fresh Hokkigai clams and baby abalone. For a sumptuous one-dish meal that will please everyone, you can’t go wrong with the Wealthy Poon Choi ($298). It’s layered with assorted seafood delicacies, roast meats, Chinese mushrooms, and a collagen-packed pork knuckle that has been braised for over eight hours.
And what’s Chinese New Year without delectable snacks? Apart from handmade Lunar New Year goodies like the classic Traditional Chinese Coin Red Dates Nian Gao ($38/700g), crunchy Shichimi Togarashi Cashew Nuts and Caramelized Sesame Walnuts (each $28/200g), and melt-in-your-mouth Homemade Golden Pineapple Tarts ($28/250g). this year’s special is the Orange Chocolate Chiffon Mousse Cake ($38/1kg).
