, Royal revelry

Deepavali is when you can expect to feast on spice-ridden meals fit for a king. Biryani, for example, was once a royal dish in the courts of Moghul emperors. Shahi Maharani will showcase various biryani versions including a Dum Pukth Lamb Biryani from Lucknow, and a vegetarian Tahiri Biryani alongside tender, freshly grilled kebabs. The festival culminates in a gala dinner on 2 November with the culinary celebration in full force: curries, breads, desserts, and live stations featuring kebabs grilled à la minute and a full spread of biryani condiments.

In keeping with the tradition for sweet beginnings, Shahi Maharani’s mithai boxes carry an assortment of stuffed kaju rolls, milk cakes, walnut ladoos and masala chai burfi. 28 October to 2 November. From $46 for weekday 1-for-1 lunch buffet, $66 for gala dinner, #03-21B Raffles City Shopping Centre (Level 3 Fairmont Singapore). Tel: 6235 8840
