Modern Indonesian cuisine is the highlight of Smriti Jakarta, a versatile dining, drinking and entertainment venue in the heart of the city.

What is modern Indonesian cuisine? Head chef Harum Indra tries to address the question at Smriti Jakarta through arresting takes on Indonesian regional dishes. The menu is constantly evolving, showcasing different regional cuisine from different islands in the archipelago. At the moment, it spotlights flavourful dishes from Sumatera and Java.

A collaborative effort by Indra and his team, the dishes are made of different techniques to better accentuate the locally-sourced and premium ingredients. Having worked for more than eight years at award-winning restaurants in Denmark, Sweden and Australia; Indra weaves his wealth of experience with his deeply-rooted devotion to Indonesian regional cuisine. The familiar flavour of Sumatera and Javanese cuisine are evident in dishes such as Steak Saus Rendang, Bobor Jamur Asap, Tuna Asem Udeng, Klepon Cake, and many more.

Housed within a thoughtfully-restored building in Central Jakarta, it offers a versatile space to share a leisurely lunch with friends, run an impressive meeting with clients or have a late-night tipple and cigars over the weekends. True to its name which means commemoration in Sanskrit, Smriti Jakarta is the place to reminisce and celebrate one’s milestones.

Curated antiques and artworks are displayed throughout the venue, be it at the main dining room or at the whiskey bar. From nautical memorabilia to antiques that rightly belongs in one’s grandparents house, the eclectic decor puts one at ease, as if one visits the house of an old-time family friend. Guests who prefer to have their meal privately can book the spacious private rooms on the mezzanine areas. After sunset, head to the verdant outdoor seating area where balmy air and a glass of Old Fashioned goes really well together.

Cocktail connoisseurs can order from the bar’s craft cocktails selection or have the bartenders concoct a bespoke drink based on one’s taste preferences. Inspired by the archipelago’s spices, fruits and desserts, the drink list features cocktails and mocktails such as Batavia (a whiskey mangosteen cocktail) as well as Mark and Rita, a fun twist of Margarita made of charcoal, Himalayan salt lollipop and tequila.
