Return to Stillness: The New Silent Retreat at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan

True stillness can be challenging to find in an interconnected world, yet the practice of quiet reflection remains deeply embedded within Balinese culture. Embracing this heritage, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has launched a transformative Silent Retreat designed for solo travellers looking to disconnect from modern life within the quietude of the Ayung River valley. Held just once a month, this seven-day and six-night programme encourages guests to return to nature’s rhythms, anchoring the experience in the island’s tradition of contemplation.

The transformative Silent Retreat unfolds within Bali’s revered Ayung River valley

Guiding this internal journey is the resort’s resident Wellness Mentor, Heny Ferawati – known affectionately as Ibu Fera – whose heart-led outlook is shaped by years spent as an ordained Buddhist nun in Myanmar. Alongside a skilled team of practitioners and local healers, Ibu Fera leads a gentle programme of mindfulness, Vipassana meditation, and Kundalini yoga. Her teachings focus on helping individuals navigate life’s emotional landscape, guiding participants to cultivate genuine compassion and self-awareness.

To facilitate complete mental restoration, the programme enforces a strict digital detox. Upon arrival, guests hand their mobile phones in at the Front Desk, while televisions and Wi-Fi access are completely removed from their private villas or suites. This total absence of external noise shapes the daily experience until the final day, when the retreat concludes with the signature “Can You Keep a Secret” journey. This private, three-hour tour explores lesser-known local sites and hidden treasures, designed to ease participants gently back into the speaking world through inspired discovery.

The retreat is an extension of the resort’s annual Nyepi celebrations

Nourishment is central to the stay, provided through a dedicated Sattvic menu featuring seasonal, plant-based dishes crafted by Head Chef Wayan Sutariawan to promote health and vitality. A sample day flows with calm intention, starting with morning Kundalini yoga at the bamboo Dharma Shanti Bale, followed by an in-villa floating breakfast.

Afternoons are reserved for personal time alongside rituals at the Sacred River Spa. These include Tirta Ening, a 150-minute multi-sensory water ceremony, and Restu Bumi, a two-hour connection ritual encompassing an activated gemstone massage. By eliminating modern distractions, this tailored silent retreat creates a rare space for personal growth in Bali.

The new programme is designed to disconnect with external noise and reconnect with inner wisdom

The immersive Silent Retreat at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is available once a month on select dates throughout the year, including 23 May, 20 June, 1 August, 29 August, 26 September, 24 October, 21 November, and 12 December.
