Wine and Dine at The Revamped Taman Sari Bar & Grill at Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel
Following the recent appointment of chef Patrick Wilfred under the new concept, Taman Sari Bar & Grill hosted an Epicurean Wine Dinner.
When in Yogyakarta, ask the locals about a well-situated luxury hotel to stay in, and the Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel often comes first as the answer. Apart from its renowned five-star amenities and services, the hotel also flaunts a recently revamped signature restaurant with a steakhouse concept, Taman Sari Bar & Grill.
Perched on the outdoor area of the hotel’s second floor and located adjacent to the swimming pool, the restaurant entices meat lovers seeking a romantic or leisurely dining experience with their loved ones. The newly appointed chef de cuisine, Patrick Wilfred, serves a myriad of palatable culinary creations that set the night just right.
To begin its new chapter, Taman Sari Bar & Grill welcomed invitees and distinguished guests to the ‘Epicurean Wine Dinner’ on 23 September 2023, hosted by the restaurant and epicure as the media partner.
The dinner event entailed a six-course tasting menu, paired with wines and a cocktail. Each menu is exclusively tailored for the event to match the exquisite and limited wine selections from Beaulieu Vineyard, Penfolds, and Les Légendes.
With considerable experience to his name through eminent steakhouses and restaurants across the country, chef Patrick Wilfred is well-versed on meat-focused fare. Before delving into the chef’s specialities at the event, guests were served with a detoxifying welcome drink, Chlorophyll & Osibori and Tuna Tartare as the first course.
The second course was reserved for a hearty bowl of Bone Marrow Soup, where thin-sliced short rib, creamy broth, and noodles harmoniously complemented each other. Banana Oleo Whisky was the perfect accompanying cocktail, with its dominating banana aroma to accompany the soup.
The third course, Spinach Ravioli, was a perfect savoury and creamy delight, with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese stealing the spotlight for its main flavours. The dish was paired with a white wine, Rothschild Les Légendes Bordeaux 2021.
The following two dishes highlighted the new chef’s skills when it comes to steaks. Sirloin Popsicle (AUS Black Angus Sirloin, Purple Potato Espuma, and Burnt Onion Puree) was served with a full-bodied red wine, Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
The last savoury course, Dry Aged Tenderloin served with Crispy Potato Layer, Carrot Puree, Sautee Mushroom, and Pickle Cucumber, followed the popsicle. Penfolds BIN 2 Shiraz Mataro was selected by the sommelier as the best companion for the dish.
The wine dinner ended sweetly with a serving of The Crunchy Part of Almond Parfait as the dessert. Along with Cromas Carmenere Gran Reserva enhancing the Hazelnut Frangelico Sauce at the centre of the caramelised almond, the feast ended in a high, memorable note.
Afterwards, the diners were invited to the adjoining Speakeasy Bar for a cocktail or two. Under the warm lights of the newly designed interiors and the new open kitchen area, a dining experience at Taman Sari Bar & Grill is as cosy as it is exciting.
Diners can enjoy a romantic evening overlooking the pool or watch the chefs preparing various cuts of beef, such as ribeye, kiwami top sirloin, and tomahawk over a charcoal fire. Those who prefer seafood, pasta, and vegetarian meals are also welcome. Or come for the wide-ranging selection of sommelier-approved wine.
“We are excited to introduce our new steakhouse concept to Yogyakarta. We are committed to providing our guests with the best possible dining experience, from the food and wine to the service and atmosphere,” said chef Patrick Wilfred.
Taman Sari Bar & Grill and Speakeasy Bar are in the hotel’s second-floor outdoor area. Open daily from 4pm to 11pm.
