On tap: caffeine and malt
40 Hands’ coffee-inspired craft beer is the artisanal product of a brewmaster and barista.
Coffee mixed with beer? Sounds like a quirky experiment at an adolescent beer party. But not for Colin Paige, brewmaster of Archipelago Brewery, and Harry Grover, head barista of 40 Hands café. Grover has added the café’s house blend (comprising four single origin coffees with Costa Rican, Columbian, Guatemalan and Papua New Guinea beans) to the chocolatey English Brown malt and Munich malt (selected by Paige) during the mashing process. The result is a biscuity lager with accents of caramel and espresso. From $12 per pint. Available at 40 Hands. 78 Yong Siak Street. Tel: 6225 8545
