Underground movement
Mike Soldner, who was previously running the Malt Vault in the basement of Ann Siang Road’s Screening Room, has decamped to another subterranean room in The Club Hotel a few doors away.
The new watering hole, B28—an abbreviated moniker of the bar’s location and address—still retains a whisky-infused vibe with more than 100 single cask offerings. There are now more options for non-malt sippers: former Klee mixologist Aubrey Sim shakes up classic cocktails, while the wine menu offers more than two dozen choices, such as the Isola e Olena Cepparello from Tuscany ($198 per bottle) and the Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir from New Zealand’s Central Otago ($134 per bottle). On Monday nights, the bar is open only to members, who are each given a key to their personal lockers stashed with goodies like a single cask expression from the Royal Lochnagar distillery and the Delamotte Blanc de Blancs 1999 champagne.
