, A worthy gourmet escape

It seems like the wine region of Margaret River is sparing no expense to give its Barossa Valley and Hunter Valley neighbours a run for their money when it comes to fiestas. More than 20 top names from the culinary world will be attending the Margaret River Gourmet Escape, held between 22 and 25 November. Momofuku icon, David Chang, Noma wizard, René Redzepi, and two Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms’ chef Sat Bains are among some of the toques who will share their insights at the Gourmet Village’s masterclasses and demonstrations. A carnival-esque marketplace, the Gourmet Village, which is held on the compounds of Leeuwin Estate Winery, will feature over 100 boutique producer stands that will showcase foods such as vintage cheeses, handmade ice cream, grain fed beef and homemade jams. And what’s a party without music? Live bands will take to the stage in the evenings.

There will be opportunities to take a break from the crowd and amble in wide open spaces: Gourmet Beach BBQ sessions—with menus designed by Sydney’s The Flying Fish’s chef Peter Kuruvita and Melbourne-based chef and restaurateur, George Calombaris—will be held on the stunning shoreline of Smith Beach. Australian wine critic, Nick Stock, Singapore’s wine expert, Ch’ng Poh Tiong, and Master of Wine, Lisa Perotti-Brown will also host winery tours and wine dinners.
