5 foodie reasons to visit Palais Renaissance
From a whisky-library, indulgent A5 Japanese Wagyu beef don to casual French fare, there’s something even for the finicky eater.
Escape the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road with Palais Renaissance. Located beside the Royal Thai Embassy, this luxury shopping mall is home to a medley of stylish retail brands and plush dining venues.
Here are five dining destinations to satiate any one of your cravings.
Shatoburian Yakiniku
Known for its Japanese Yakiniku dining, Shatoburian Yakiniku features prime cuts of Japanese Wagyu beef and fresh seasonal ingredients from different regions in Japan. Treat yourself to their Signature Yakiniku Don ($118), a rice bowl topped with seasonal cut of grilled A5 Japanese Wagyu beef, glazed foie gras, Hokkaido sea urchin, onsen egg and a serving of fresh seasonal black truffles. Feeling a little peckish? Go for the equally indulgent Wagyu Carpaccio ($38), thinly sliced A5 Japanese Wagyu beef smoked in truffle emulsion. #02-08/09. Tel: 6904 3308
Ishinomaki Grill & Sake Bar
For a taste of premium Japanese cuisine, head down to Ishinomaki Grill & Sake Bar. Furnished with raw wood, the cosy Japanese restaurant dishes out the season’s finest seafood fare such as Sashimi Miyagi ($70), a plate of eight different varieties of premium sashimi, and the crowd-favourite, Spicy Salmon Ikura Mentai Roll ($28), topped with creamy mentaiko mayonnaise. #B1-02/03. Merci Marcel
The chic French cafe-restaurant, Merci Marcel has opened its new flagship outlet at Palais Renaissance, complete with a retail store stocking lifestyle and home decor items from boutique brands around the world. The food menu features toothsome signature dishes such as the Ravioles de Royan ($22) and Tarte Flambee ($25), but do try out other new dishes like Barramundi Tartare ($24) and the classic Crème Brûlée ($10) – perfect for a light afternoon meal. #01-03/04. PS.Cafe
The prettiest (in our opinion) PS.Cafe outlet – the interior is awash in rich black hues with beautiful imported European floor tiles, plus a terrace with colossal windows that faces the Thai Embassy – the charming dining spot is a popular choice among cafe hoppers. The menu features crowd-pleasers like Truffle Shoestring Fries ($16), PS. Brunch Burger ($30), Wagyu patty, vintage chedder, spinach, crispy smoked bacon, tomato, fried egg and crispy onions, sandwiched between pillowy sesame buns; and PS Crab & Prawn Laksa ($27). Not forgetting their indulgent Double Chocolate Blackout Cake ($16) accompanied with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. #02-09A. Tel: 6708 9288
The Writing Club
Whisky fiends, this is your heaven, The Writing Club. Home to a jaw-dropping collection of 700 bottles (and counting) of rare and collectible whiskies and spirits from around the world, the cosy 33-seater bar is run by a globetrotting-whisky-loving couple, Tan Soo San and Sherin Ong. Go for the exclusive – they are the only bar in Singapore carrying this – 12 years old Caol Ila 2006 ($550+), jointly bottled by 10 Asian Bars, including The Writing Club. Celebrating a special anniversary? Get the 29 years old Bunnahabhain 1989 ($880), it comes with a customised label for customers. #02-10. Tel: 9362 8626
