Premium cognac Louis XIII finds a home in Singapore
Cognac lovers, see Louise XIII on display in its full glory at The Whisky Distillery
From the house of Remy Martin, luxury cognac Louis XIII finds a permanent abode in The Whisky Distillery’s flagship store at One Raffles Place.
A tip to the burgeoning luxury sector in Asia, the shop-in-shop experience showcases the premium cognac’s widest range available in Southeast Asia. The cognac comes in varying formats: Le Jeroboam 3L, Le methuselah 6L (only 50 released) and the Magnum 1.5L.
Crafted mainly with Ugni Blanc (also known as Trebbiano) grapes, cognac production requires a base wine to be double distilled in copper stills. Called Eaux-de-vie, the pellucid liquid is aged in French oak for a minimum of three years. A portion of the liquid – water and alcohol – is lost in ageing through evaporation and this share is romantically referred to as Angel’s share.
In the case of Louis XIII, over 1200 different Eaux-de-vie are aged anywhere between 40 to 100 years to make up the cuvée and the ageing barrel, called the tierçons (580 litres capacity), is custom-made from French oak found in Limousin.
Furthering the luxury quotient, the bottle is a pure Baccarat hand-crafted crystal decanter embellished with exquisite fleur-de-lis medallions.
Louis XIII reveals its notes languorously with every sip. The aroma spectrum includes floral notes of dried roses, vanilla, preserved orange rind, peaches, cinnamon evolving to caramel, toffee and honeyed nuts. On the palate, you experience dried fruit, preserved figs, honey, spice and marzipan. The texture is viscous with no harsh edges and creamy; the finish, long and lingering with gentle oak spice and floral notes.
To celebrate the launch, chef-owner Ryan Clift of Tipping Club created a pairing meal with the cognac, available complimentary with Louis XIII Magnum purchase. Each course elevates the glistening and rich amber cognac experience. The N25 caviar from Germany brings out the creaminess of the cognac; the lobster plays with the sweetness and the foie gras mousse with hazelnut pralines, our favourite pairing jive with the sweet, nutty notes captured in the mature cognac.
The Louis XIII Shop-in-Shop is now open at The Whisky Distillery, One Raffles Place and available at other outlets of The Whisky Distillery.
