Celebrate Día de los Muertos at Alunê, W Bali – Seminyak

This Halloween, Alunê at W Bali – Seminyak invites guests to embrace a different kind of celebration with Día de los Muertos, Mexico’s vibrant tradition of honouring the lives and memories of loved ones who have passed. Taking place on 31 October and 1 November 2026, the two-day gathering brings together Mexican-inspired cuisine, music, live performances and festive activations in a celebration of culture, connection and the enduring bonds between generations.

Rooted in Mexican tradition, Día de los Muertos is a joyful occasion that brings people together through food, flowers and shared memories. Central to the celebration are ofrendas, or altars adorned with colourful offerings and marigolds, believed to guide the spirits of loved ones back to the festivities. At Alunê, this symbolism finds a natural connection with Balinese culture, where bunga gemitir, or marigolds, play an important role in daily offerings and religious ceremonies.

These golden blooms become a shared expression of remembrance and connection, bringing the spirit of the Mexican celebration into a distinctly Balinese setting.

A meeting of cultures through flowers and flavours

The celebration reflects Alunê’s philosophy of life as a series of rhythms and cycles, from the movement of the moon and tides to the transition from day into night. Día de los Muertos offers another interpretation of this natural rhythm, celebrating the idea that while life changes, memories and connections endure.

Across the two days, the beachfront venue will transform into a lively gathering inspired by the colours, flavours and festive spirit of Mexico. The programme combines culinary experiences with DJ performances, live entertainment and playful activations, creating an atmosphere that encourages guests to gather, explore and celebrate.

At the heart of the experience is an exclusive menu by Chef Silverio Altamirano, a Mexican culinary specialist with more than 23 years of international experience across over 20 countries. Now based in Indonesia as a Latin Cuisine Consultant Chef in Asia, he brings a deep appreciation of Mexican food and culture to the collaboration.

His specially curated menu will showcase the bold flavours and rich traditions of Mexican cuisine, offering guests a taste of the country’s distinctive culinary identity. Complemented by music and live entertainment, the dining experience forms part of a broader celebration in which food becomes a way to explore cultural heritage and bring people together.

Two days of Día de los Muertos

The festivities begin on 31 October 2026 from 5pm onwards, setting the tone for an evening of Mexican-inspired dining, music and entertainment. The celebration continues on 1 November from 1pm onwards, offering another opportunity to experience the programme in Alunê’s oceanfront setting at W Bali – Seminyak.

With its combination of culinary storytelling, cultural symbolism and the social energy associated with W Hotels, the event brings a fresh perspective to Halloween celebrations in Bali. Rather than focusing solely on the season’s darker imagery, Día de los Muertos centres on life, remembrance and the connections that continue across generations.

For Alunê, the occasion also reflects the venue’s broader approach to creating experiences shaped by local surroundings and international influences. By drawing parallels between Mexican traditions and Balinese cultural practices, the celebration offers a thoughtful meeting point between two distinct cultures.

As the sun sets over Seminyak, the festivities invite guests to immerse themselves in the flavours, sounds and spirit of Día de los Muertos, where vibrant traditions meet Bali’s dynamic beachfront scene.
