Inside Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026: The Winners, Surprises, and Standout Moments

For a region where cocktails increasingly tell stories of place, culture, and identity, Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026 offered more than a ranking – it captured the evolving spirit of Asia’s drinking scene. Held at the glittering Wynn Palace Macau, this year’s ceremony brought together the continent’s leading bartenders, bar owners, and industry insiders to celebrate the very best in hospitality, innovation, and drinks culture.

The Best Bar in Asia 2025 Hope & Sesame gets No. 1 spot in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026

Leading the pack is Hope & Sesame in Guangzhou, which claims the coveted No. 1 spot and the title of The Best Bar in Asia 2026. Hidden behind a traditional Cantonese storefront in the historic Dongshankou district, the speakeasy has spent the past seven years steadily climbing the rankings. Under founders Bastien Ciocca and Andrew Ho, the bar has earned acclaim for cocktails that reinterpret Chinese culinary traditions through cutting-edge techniques, drawing inspiration from Cantonese flavours and the broader Chinese diaspora.

While Guangzhou celebrates its biggest victory yet, the 2026 edition also reflects the remarkable diversity of Asia’s cocktail landscape. This year’s list spans 22 cities, welcoming 14 new entries and two returning bars, underscoring the rapid evolution of cocktail culture across both established capitals and emerging destinations.

Jakarta continues its rise

For Indonesia, this year’s results reaffirm Jakarta’s growing influence on the regional bar scene. Modernhaus climbs to No. 11, earning the title of The Best Bar in Indonesia for its ingredient-led philosophy that celebrates the country’s extraordinary biodiversity. The city’s momentum continues with Cosmo Pony at No. 15, Carrots Bar at No. 21, and newcomer The Golden Tooth debuting at No. 40, praised for its relaxed New York-inspired approach to cocktails and conversation.

Beyond the rankings, Hats Bar receives the Campari One To Watch Award, highlighting its growing influence and signalling even greater things to come for Indonesia’s cocktail community.

Bangkok and Hong Kong remain cocktail powerhouses

Bangkok once again proves why it remains one of Asia’s most dynamic drinking capitals, claiming eight spots in the Top 50. Dry Wave Cocktail Studio rises to No. 4 and is named The Best Bar in Thailand, while Bar Us holds steady at No. 6 and earns the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award. Among the year’s biggest success stories is Lennon’s, which debuts at No. 7 and takes home the Highest New Entry Award. Meanwhile, Bar Sathorn records the largest leap of the year, climbing an impressive 31 places to No. 17.

Hong Kong continues to showcase remarkable consistency despite fierce regional competition. Last year’s winner, Bar Leone, ranks No. 3 while retaining the title of The Best Bar in Hong Kong, joined by long-time favourites including GokanCoaArgo, and the newly recognised Mius, which also receives the Best Bar Design Award.

New destinations join Asia’s cocktail conversation

Perhaps the most compelling takeaway from this year’s list is the continued emergence of new destinations. Hanoi’s Workshop14 is named The Best Bar in Vietnam while also winning Best New Opening, Makati enters the ranking through Problem Child, and Sri Lanka celebrates its first major recognition with Smoke & Bitters, which also receives the Art of Hospitality Award. Together, they illustrate how exceptional cocktail programmes are increasingly flourishing beyond Asia’s traditional bar capitals.

As Asia’s cocktail scene continues to mature, the 2026 ranking demonstrates that today’s best bars are no longer defined solely by technical mastery. Increasingly, they are places where local ingredients, cultural narratives, thoughtful hospitality, and a strong sense of identity come together – qualities that continue to make Asia one of the world’s most exciting regions to drink in.
