A chilled seafood platter, plates from the grill and Whispering Angel rosé shape Sundara’s Sunday brunch by the sea. This October, guests who wear pink also help support the Bali Pink Ribbon Foundation.
Jimbaran Bay is famous for seafood grilled at the water’s edge, and Pink Brunch at Sundara carries that tradition into Sundays. The restaurant sits on the beach at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay. Its kitchen cooks over wood and open flame, then brings that approach to a leisurely lunch of sharing plates overlooking the bay.
Pink gerberas stand on the tables and pink cushions line the sofas. On our visit, touches of pink also ran through the meal. We found them in the cocktails, the main courses and the desserts.
This October, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sundara will donate 15% of each pink-wearing guest’s bill to the Bali Pink Ribbon Foundation.
First comes a chilled seafood platter, set in the centre of the table for sharing. Poached lobster and tiger prawns sit alongside scallop crudo, line-caught tuna tartare, steamed clams and coffee wood-smoked salmon. Beside them, the kitchen adds a Bloody Mary dip, smoked chilli mayonnaise, and horseradish with lemon. Charcoal lavosh, focaccia and rye then arrive with smoked butter, roasted eggplant and grilled tomato. Guests can also add Bester caviar as an optional extra.
After the platter, the à la carte sharing menu moves through sea, land and plant. Much of it meets the grill or the embers. Oysters, for example, go onto the grill with smoked chilli butter, sourdough crumbs and parmesan. Coffee wood-smoked beef tartare arrives with beetroot, horseradish and crispy potato. Meanwhile, ember-smoked duck shares the plate with foie gras, raspberries and radicchio. From the plant section, Malang stracciatella comes with asparagus, grilled artichokes and kenari nuts.
Whispering Angel rosé features in the Whispers in Pink package, which includes one bottle for two guests. Pink Indulgence guests can also order it by the glass or by the bottle. The rosé appears in the Pink Me Up cocktail too, with strawberry and basil cordial and elderflower tonic.
Finally, a dessert trolley rolls to the table for the Bali vanilla mille-feuille, which the team prepares and serves tableside. Bedugul strawberries bring a touch of pink. Rosella, meanwhile, flavours a soft-serve finished with crumble and meringue. The menu also offers a pink granita with seasonal fruit.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place around the world each October. It raises awareness of the disease and encourages education, support and early detection. In Bali, the Bali Pink Ribbon Foundation takes that work into local communities. With the help of medical volunteers, it runs awareness seminars and screening sessions across the island. These take place everywhere from hotels to villages.
Taking part in Sundara’s initiative is simple: wear something pink on 11, 18 or 25 October. So the month adds a further reason to gather at Sundara’s beachfront tables. Alongside the seafood, ember-smoked dishes and rosé, wearing pink links Sunday brunch to the foundation’s work.
