The St. Regis Jakarta and Iwan Tirta Inspired Afternoon Tea

In celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Month, The St. Regis Jakarta collaborates with Iwan Tirta Private Collection to present A Journey in Layers, a special afternoon tea experience available throughout August 2025 at The Drawing Room.

This commemorative offering transforms the traditional tiered tea set into a tribute to the life of Iwan Tirta, the late batik maestro whose work championed Indonesian culture on the global stage. Through a selection of savouries and sweets, each dish draws from the defining moments of Tirta’s journey—from his formative years during the days of Indonesian independence and academic pursuits abroad, to his enduring devotion to Indonesian heritage.

Savoury bites such as a reimagined Dutch-style bitterballen filled with Yogyakarta mozzarella reflect the cultural dualities he embraced. Meanwhile, the “Talam Mille-feuille” layers local tradition with a refined touch, merging French technique with flavours rooted in homegrown ingredients. As always in the hotel’s afternoon tea, a special scones set rounds up the menu and perfectly created for this occasion, this time presenting pandan scones with kaya jam.

Served in the elegant surroundings of The Drawing Room, the experience offers more than just culinary pleasure—it becomes a celebration of Indonesia’s layered identity, told through one of its most respected creative figures. The menu’s thoughtful composition mirrors the intricate storytelling of Tirta’s batik designs, where symbolism and memory are woven into every detail.
