Where to dine this valentine’s

Where to dine this Valentine’s

If you want to recreate a scene straight out from a romantic movie, these places will provide a suitable backdrop.

District 10 Bar & Restaurant’s new pad emanates warm rustic charm with warm wooden booth seats to cozy up to. We are lusting after the braised wagyu beef cheek, and the white and black chocolate mousse from the three-course Valentine’s menu. Available from 11-14 February. ($58 per person with a complimentary glass of Veuve Clicquot Rose) 81 Clemenceau Avenue, #01-15/16/17, UE Square Shopping Mall. Tel: 6738 4788

Head chef Domenico Piras is right on cue when it comes to pampering a loved one. The dishes in Pontini’s five-course dinner includes a clear duck consommé with potato, foie gras raviolone and julienne of vegetables, and a slow baked red snapper with tropea red onion fondant, mussels, saffron and potato brodetto. That the languorous Italian feast is served in an uncontrived space with high ceilings, transparent windows and a glass-enclosed wine cellar is an ambient bonus. Available on 13 and 14 February ($108 per person with a glass of Prosecco) 392 Havelock Road. Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. Tel: 6233 1100

Been there, done that when it comes to dining by candlelight? Anar evokes a different kind of wonder with its palatial, Middle Eastern feel. The exotic atmosphere is made up of brass lamps inspired by those found in Istanbul’s Blue Mosque, intricate wooden latticework and crimson-toned Dimashq drapes from Syria. Some things, like champagne, never get old, which is why a complimentary glass of bubbly accompanies a three-course meal that matches every bit of the restaurant’s vibe. Available on 14 February. ($90 per couple) 26, Sentosa Gateway. Tel: 6884 6989

La Nonna translates to ‘grandmother’ in Italian, which should say something about its traditional unpretentious fare. The menu is a three-course affair with a choice of mains: salmon wrapped spinach with caviar cream, or grilled beef tenderloin served with boiled asparagus and morel mushroom sauce. Available in the evening of 14 February. ($56 per person) 26/26B Lorong Mambong. Tel: 6468 1982

When it comes to bar hopping for tucking into an array of tapas, the Spanish do it best. But the saffron-laced paella, grilled Meltique beef or roasted boneless chicken that follow after the piping hot bites at Serenity Spanish Bar & Restaurant on Valentine’s Day, are likely to make you stay. The dimly lit waterside locale, complete with the soothing tunes of an acoustic live band and decadent chocolate desserts, has all the makings of a romantic rendezvous. ($128 per person) #01-98/99 VivoCity. Tel: 6376 8185

Write your own Italian love story over homemade pasta with porcini mushroom stuffing in a white wine and sage sauce at Etna Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria. The panna cotta in strawberry and raspberry at dessert makes for a good ending. Available on 13 and 14 February. ($59 per person) 49/50 Duxton Road. Tel: 6220 5513
