Hu Jing and Janu Grill at Janu Tokyo
This luxury hotel designed by architect Jean-Michel Gathy boasts eight impressive F&B outlets ranging from Japanese (Sumi and Iigura) to Italian and Chinese. At Hu Jing, authentic Cantonese flavours are served against a backdrop overlooking the revitalised Azabudai Hills. Here, Tokyo reveals a different side – a modern urban village where culture, art, and nature converge amid striking modern architecture.
Home to various boutiques such as Tokyo’s largest Hermès store, along with Dior and Cartier, Azabudai Hills was conceived by the Mori Building Company and officially opened in late 2023. Elevated walkways and landscaped paths invite exploration, anchored by the soaring Mori JP Tower – the tallest building in Tokyo.
Inside Hu Jing, interiors blend elegance with a nod to tradition. A calming palette of light beige and grey is accented by red lacquered walls, Shanghai-style brickwork, and bamboo detailing. An open show kitchen brings the culinary theatre to life, while four private dining rooms offer intimate settings for special occasions.
The highlight of Hu Jing’s menu is the signature Peking duck, meticulously roasted in the restaurant’s custom-built kiln for an authentic experience. Led by Head Chef Yusuke Yamaguchi, the contemporary Cantonese menu showcases refined dishes such as wok-fried lobster with ginger and spring greens, alongside a diverse selection of meat and fresh seafood specialities and dim sum.
Meanwhile, Janu Grill offers a different kind of spectacle. The expansive dining room is designed around a dramatic show kitchen, with 180-degree views of the iconic Tokyo Tower. With its blackened steel bar, dark leather accents, and sophisticated atmosphere, Janu Grill evokes the energy of New York City with a distinctly Tokyo edge. There are two private dining rooms for up to 20 guests and a dedicated bar to boot.
Here, prime cuts and exceptional seafood take centre stage. Indulge in Shimane Prefecture Matsunaga beef sirloin, premium Japanese and USDA beef, New Zealand cuts, and the freshest seafood sourced daily from Toyosu Market—all complemented by a selection of signature sauces and sides. Wine lovers will appreciate the two impressive cellars housing over 2,300 bottles. Janu Grill also welcomes hotel guests for breakfast, served in the same vibrant space that transitions from morning light to evening allure.
Duet by David Toutain at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok
The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok’s French fine-dining restaurant draws inspiration from Chef David Toutain’s two-Michelin-starred establishment in Paris. Set within a stunning glasshouse with a lush outdoor terrace overlooking the city, the restaurant is divided into two zones that strike a balance between intimacy and openness.
Interior design studio PIA cleverly introduced a series of vertical steel elements — an abstract interpretation of a birdcage nestled within a verdant forest. Bespoke pendant lamps cast a warm, inviting glow that highlights each refined dish, turning your meal into a visual and culinary experience.
Subtle shades of green woven throughout the interiors too. This soft leaf-green colour palette reflects the chef’s menu and its commitment to natural ingredients. The menu itself mainly features sustainable, artisanal produce. For the Fall Exploration menu, expect delicate wild mushroom and smoked eel tartlets, followed by seafood creations such as pil pil with salsify and black lemon, and Brittany blue lobster paired with parsnip.
Equally beautiful is Lily’s, whose intimate setting is inspired by the lily ponds in Thai homes. The menu presents reimagined classics and refreshed favourites such as Northern duck confit with grilled rice cake and crispy duck skin or Chiang Mai tomatoes with parma ham and watermelon. Lily’s offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.
