Art can offer a way to express what words cannot always capture. At The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali, this idea takes shape through Suara Warna Art Showcase, an event hosted in collaboration with Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan Bali (YPK Bali). Running from 16 October to 15 November, the exhibition brings together local artists and young creators, using their work to open conversations about resilience, emotional well-being, and self-expression.

Presented in conjunction with World Mental Health Day, the art showcase features intuitive painter Mira El Amir, watercolor artist Arina Proboningtyas, sculptor Ayu Sri Rejeki, and five young artists from YPK Bali. Though their mediums differ, each offers a personal perspective on navigating life’s challenges.

For Mira, painting became a means of processing emotions, with vibrant canvases reflecting a journey of healing and transformation. Arina, formerly a musician and educator, turned to watercolor during her recovery from a difficult period in life. Her finely layered paintings draw inspiration from flowers and fruits, capturing the details and colours of the natural world.

Ayu’s sculptures, meanwhile, explore women’s emotional journeys and the courage involved in finding one’s own artistic voice after years of working behind the scenes alongside sculptor Bambang Adi Pramono.

Perhaps the most moving works in the art showcase come from the children of YPK Bali. Over nearly two years, the five young artists developed their skills under volunteer art instructor Mr Yoda, learning to create paintings by blowing paint across canvases through straws.
Before colourful patterns could become imagined ships, fish, people, and other figures, the children first had to learn how to hold a straw, regulate their breathing, and direct the airflow. What appears spontaneous on the canvas is the result of patience, repetition, and determination. Beyond creative expression, the sessions also support oral motor skills, confidence, and social connection.
“Suara Warna is a celebration of the incredible strength, creativity, and resilience that exists within every individual,” expressed Saraswati Subadia, general manager of The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali.
“Through art, stories that may otherwise go unheard are given a voice. We are honored to collaborate with local artists and Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan Bali in creating an experience that inspires reflection, fosters meaningful connection, and supports well-being within our community.”
Visitors can experience the art showcase in the resort’s lobby throughout the exhibition period. All artworks created by the children are available for purchase, with 100 percent of proceeds going directly to YPK Bali to support its ongoing programmes and services.
More than a display of artistic talent, Suara Warna Art Showcase invites visitors to see how creativity can foster connection, celebrate individual perspectives, and make space for stories that deserve to be heard.
