There are some spaces in Bali that naturally become part of the island’s social fabric, and the beachfront at W Bali – Seminyak has long been one of them. Now, that familiar stretch of Seminyak shore takes on a new rhythm with Alunê, a multisensory beachfront destination opening in September 2026. Taking over the prime position once occupied by WooBar, Alunê marks a new chapter for one of Bali’s most recognisable resorts and its enduring social scene.
Rather than looking back, Alunê translates the spirit of W – its playful confidence, visual boldness and appetite for a good time – into a new era of beach-club culture, bringing together sunset-driven design, elevated dining, considered cocktails and lively social energy.
The name draws from the Indonesian alunan, referring to the rhythm of ocean waves and melody, paired with lune, the French word for moon. It reflects a venue shaped by movement: the changing tides, shifting light, music and the social ebb and flow of its guests.
At its heart, Alunê is designed around one of Bali’s most dependable rituals: sunset. With Seminyak’s south-west-facing coastline offering views of the Indian Ocean, the venue makes the landscape part of its architecture. Designed by WELD, the interiors interpret the colours of the beach through ocean blue, burnt orange, grey teakwood, Rosso Alicante marble and green quartzite.
At the bar, hand-cut mosaic tiles and orange-tinted glass panels create an amber glow as the sun descends, while a hand-carved and hand-painted timber counter echoes the colours of the tide. It is an unmistakably W approach to design: immersive, polished and playful.
A new rhythm for the resort
Located on Petitenget Beach, at the centre of Seminyak’s fashion, dining and nightlife scene, W Bali – Seminyak has long held a distinctive position in Bali’s hospitality landscape. Its experiences span Starfish Bloo’s beachfront dining, FIRE’s open-fire cooking, W Lounge, Wet Deck, AWAY Spa and the 24-hour FIT gym.
Alunê continues the resort’s balance of Balinese influences and contemporary global sensibilities, with a stronger emphasis on the outdoors and the changing moods of the day. Guests can arrive in the afternoon, linger over drinks, stay for dinner and watch the venue transform as evening arrives. Dining, entertainment, design and connection come together in a destination designed to be enjoyed well beyond sunset.
Cocktails with character
At Alunê, the bar provides the pulse. Its cocktail programme moves beyond familiar tropical formulas, layering botanicals, spices, herbs, fruit and regional ingredients into distinctive compositions.
“We wanted to move away from the high-sugar, juice-heavy drinks that are often associated with tropical venues and create something distinctly Alunê,” explains Steven Peter, Executive Assistant Manager of F&B and Culinary. “The starting point was Bali’s rich agricultural landscape and the incredible ingredients we have access to here, from local botanicals to young coconut. We wanted the drinks to feel refined and intentional, but still approachable.”
Highlights include Ebb & Flow, a savoury blend of gin, dry vermouth, olive leaf syrup and kemangi tincture, and Senja Negroni, which combines pandan-infused Cazadores Blanco with bianco vermouth, Aperol and torch ginger. Afterglow pairs spiced rum with banana and makrut lime leaf, while Ivory Tide offers a creamy, floral combination of vodka, almond milk cordial and elderflower.
Lighter options include Solaris Spritz, featuring pomelo and thyme-infused gin, and Soft Current, a blend of vodka, lychee, lime and mint topped with hibiscus and beetroot foam. Each drink reflects a focus on layered flavours rather than appearance alone.
The non-alcoholic programme receives equal attention through a wellness collection organised around six moods: Calm, Balance, Vitality, Ease, Immunity and Glow. Ingredients range from pandan, chamomile and coconut water to lemongrass, galangal, hibiscus and pomelo, offering a more flexible approach to drinking by the beach.
Beyond the bar
“Our vision for Alunê was to completely redefine the traditional beach-club experience. We wanted to step away from the predictable and create something that feels sophisticated while remaining entirely welcoming,” says Steven. “The idea is elevated comfort food – taking the dishes people genuinely crave by the water and reimagining them with premium ingredients and refined presentation.”
The all-day menu spans breakfast, small plates, pasta, pizza, seafood, sharing dishes and desserts. Familiar favourites include avocado toast with soft-boiled egg and Sichuan chilli oil, a parmesan bagel with gravlax salmon, and grilled Emmental buns with Balinese smoked ham.
For sharing, lightly marinated snapper is served with arak-ginger dressing, while Sumbawa-sourced yellowfin tuna comes with red ponzu and umami chips. Lombok oysters, cured reef fish and charred red capsicum with labneh and Bedugul thyme add further variety.
Larger dishes include lobster orzo finished with palm arak flambé, Wagyu picanha with chimichurri, black local pork chop and Papuan prawns with chilli garlic butter. Comfort-driven options such as a Wagyu smash burger, lobster roll, line-caught seabream and salt-and-pepper squid round out the offering.
“The identity of the menu comes from finding that balance between approachability and luxury,” says Executive Sous Chef Jules Winckler. “Our crafted burgers are about perfecting the classics and giving guests that satisfying comfort after a day in the sun, while dishes such as the Reef Fish Carpaccio and Wagyu Tartare Hash bring pristine ingredients and precise techniques into an effortless sharing format.”
The menu is designed to adapt to the occasion, whether guests want a few plates alongside cocktails or a more substantial meal as the sun sets.
Making a day of it

Private pool cabanas, each equipped with a jacuzzi and uninterrupted Indian Ocean views, offer a more secluded alternative to the venue’s social spaces.
Meanwhile, Club Lacoste, W Bali – Seminyak’s new wellness-focused concept, introduces premium padel to the property. Together, the experiences create a natural day-to-night progression, from afternoon activity to sunset cocktails.
The concept reflects the evolving expectations of luxury travellers, who increasingly seek destinations that accommodate different moods, from wellness and indulgence to socialising and solitude. Alunê is built around that flexibility.
The next chapter
For Alunê, the challenge is not simply to introduce something new, but to create a place that feels right for W Bali – Seminyak today. It retains the resort’s signature music, sense of occasion and unapologetic approach to having fun, while giving them a fresh expression through considered cocktails, expansive dining and design attuned to its beachfront setting.
As the light fades over Seminyak, the bar begins to glow and the soundtrack shifts with the evening. Some guests settle in for dinner; others move towards the music. The beach club becomes a bar, the bar becomes a social room, and sunset gradually gives way to night.
Alunê is ultimately defined not by one particular moment but by movement, bringing a new rhythm to W Bali – Seminyak and a fitting expression of what a Bali evening can become.
